Buying Boxing Gloves? Here's what you need to consider!
When choosing the right boxing gloves, there are many things to consider. Many people therefore can't see the wood for the trees. Do you want to know which gloves suit you best? Below you will find some aspects to pay attention to!
The type of glove
What the best glove is for you depends on what you want to do with it. If you only want to kickbox, it's good to specifically choose kickboxing gloves. If you want to box, or make a combination of both sports, you can comfortably use boxing gloves. Matchu Sports gloves are suitable for both boxing and kickboxing and can even be used for bag training. For harder sparring, it might be good to look for softer gloves. For training on pads, light sparring, technique, and bag training, this versatile glove is extremely suitable.
Due to the small size of MMA gloves, they are ideal for bag training. This is also the reason why you see them being used a lot during B-kick. In addition, the gloves are used for grappling and of course MMA.
What size boxing glove?
The sizes of boxing gloves are based on weight and are measured in ounces (oz). OZ stands for ounce and is an English unit of weight. Based on your body weight, you can choose the boxing gloves that suit you. Your hand size may also be relevant here. A higher weight means a larger glove, but a higher body weight does not directly mean a larger hand. The boxing gloves are suitable for both men and women. However, it is common for women to have smaller hands. For this reason as well, hand size plays a role. You can easily calculate your hand size by measuring around your knuckles.
MMA gloves, however, do not go by weight, but by size. Most MMA gloves have a weight of approximately 4 oz, which is also the official competition weight for an MMA glove. The size of glove you should buy also depends on your weight, gender, and hand size.
At the bottom of this page, you will find an overview of the Matchu Sports gloves. Here you can see exactly which glove suits you best! You can choose between the 12 oz boxing gloves (women), 14 oz (men / women with large hands), 16 oz (large men), or our MMA gloves.
Attention! The above tables only provide an indication of the sizes. For example, if you want to buy boxing gloves as a woman, but weigh more than 75kg, you can still choose the MMA gloves size L.
Tips
When buying boxing gloves, make sure they are not tight around the hand. The glove should definitely not constrict the hand. If the glove is too tight, the risk of injuries is significantly higher. However, the gloves will stretch slightly during use. So, when purchasing, the gloves should fit slightly tighter.
When buying boxing gloves, it is highly recommended to also buy hand wraps. Hand wraps help limit perspiration odors and make the gloves last longer. They also provide extra stability to your wrists. When purchasing boxing gloves, therefore take the wraps into account. Make sure to leave room for the wraps.
With MMA gloves, there is often not enough room for wraps. Therefore, make sure the gloves fit well on your hand. Too much space can cause knuckle damage, as the gloves can cause excessive friction.
